Rings, Rods, Scrolls, and Staves

Rings, Rods, Scrolls, and Staves

All across the System, various magic items have been hand-crafted for various adventurers. The following are a collection of some of rings, rods, scrolls, and staves, ready to be used in any adventure!

Bindle

Staff, common

While holding this worn-out wooden staff, you can use an action to transform it into a, bedroll, crowbar, handaxe, shovel, rope, hempen (50 feet) or back into a quarterstaff. This new form lasts until you use this property again or drop the item.

Lightning Rod

Rod, uncommon

While holding this rod, you have advantage on saving throws against spells and effects which deal lightning damage. In addition, whenever a bolt of lightning passes within 20 feet of you, you can use your reaction to bend its path so that it passes directly through you instead.

Mama o le Tutusa

Ring, very rare (requires attunement by a cleric, fighter, paladin, sorcerer)

The Mama o le Tutusa, or "Ring of Equality", is a slim pearl white band with an iridescent shine around it.  While attuned to the ring, you can choose a creature you can see within 60 feet of yourself and force them to make a DC 17 Constitution saving throw, with disadvantage if they are within 30 feet of you. You or the creature can willingly fail the save. If the creature fails, they are magically linked to you for one hour, regardless of the distance between you and them. When damage is dealt to you or them, the same damage is dealt to the other. If hit points are restored to you or them, the same number of hit points are restored to the other. If you or the linked creature is reduced to 0 hit points, the effect ends on both. If the effect ends on one creature, it ends on both.

Once the ring has been used in this way, it can not be used again until the next dawn.

Parasol of Levitation

Rod, uncommon

As an action, you can extend this wooden rod and transform it into a parasol. While holding the parasol you can use 20 feet of your movement to levitate up or down.  While aloft, you can move only by pushing or pulling against a fixed object or surface within reach (such as a wall or a ceiling), which allows you to move as if you were climbing.

Pirate's Staff

Staff, rare

This magic +1 quarterstaff can be retracted and expanded as a bonus action to only be two inches long by pressing a button on one end, appearing as a retracted spyglass when not being wielded. This staff can also act as an immovable rod when it is fully extended by pressing the button on the opposite end of the first button as an action.

Ring of the Scavenger

Ring, uncommon

This band is made of bone with the troglodyte word for "Eat" inscribed into it.  While wearing this ring, you are able to consume organic and inorganic refuse (such as small amounts of paper, twine, or burlap) as if it were regular food.  The refuse smells and tastes delicious to you and you also acquire a taste for it.

Ring of Unseen Equipment

Ring, common

This simple glass ring is intentionally unassuming.  When worn by a creature all equipment (including their clothing) becomes invisible.

Rings of the Sentinel

Ring, uncommon (requires attunement)

These rings come in linked pairs marked Sentinel and Ward. If you possess Sentinel ring, you can use a bonus action to form a link to the creature attuned to the Ward ring; from then on, whenever that creature suffers damage, they only suffer half of that damage and you take the rest. This effect continues until you end it as a bonus action or until you or the other creature removes their ring. This effect also ends if either creature is more than 60 feet from the other.  A creature cannot be attuned to more than one ring of the sentinel.

Rod of Temporal Security

Rod, legendary

While holding this rod, you can use an action to activate it. The rod then instantly transports you and up to 199 other willing creatures you can see to a paradise that exists in an extraplanar space. You choose the form that the paradise takes. Regardless of its nature, the paradise contains enough water and food to sustain its visitors as well as lodging and spectral servants that cater to your whims. Everything else that can be interacted with inside the extraplanar space can exist only there. For example, a turkey leg from a tavern in the paradise disappears if it is taken outside the extraplanar space.

For each hour spent in the paradise, a visitor regains hit points as if it had spent 1 Hit Die. Also, creatures don't age while in the paradise, although time passes normally. Visitors can remain in the paradise for up to 200 days divided by the number of creatures present (round down).

When the time runs out or you use an action to end it, all visitors reappear in the location they occupied when you activated the rod, or an unoccupied space nearest that location. In addition when you leave the extraplanar space, you may choose how many days have passed on the plane you originated from.  For example, you could spend 40 days inside of the extraplanar space, but choose for only 4 days to have passed on the plane you originated from (to a minimum of 1 day).

The rod can't be used again until 100 days have passed.

Scepter of the Deep

Staff, rare (requires attunement by a druid or cleric)

This simple quarterstaff with a vibrant gem strung together at the top belonged to a powerful shaman.  When you hit a creature with this magical quarterstaff, it deals an extra 2d6 lightning damage to any target it hits.

Proficiency with a quarterstaff allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

Scroll of a Thousand Papercuts

Scroll, uncommon

You can read from this scroll to unleash a torrent of razor sharp pieces of paper, cutting and slicing all creatures in it's area.  When you read the scroll as an action, each creature in a 15 foot cone must make a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw or takes 8d6 slashing damage on a failed save, or half as much on a successful one.

Scroll of the Storage Coop

Scroll, uncommon

This large scroll is 10 feet by 10 feet wide and appears more like a tapestry.  It is activated in two parts. When you place an object no greater than 5 feet in any dimension upon the scroll and use an action to read the first part, the object vanishes and becomes an illustration of itself in the scroll. When you use an action to read the second part of the scroll, the scroll vanishes and becomes a chicken.

If a dispel magic spell or similar magic is cast on the chicken, or when the chicken dies, the object reappears within 5 feet in an unoccupied space of where the chicken was.

Staff of Lesser Healing

Staff, varies (requires attunement by a Cleric, or Druid)

This staff has 7 charges. While holding it, you can use an action to expend 1 or more of its charges to cast one of the following spells from it, using your spell save DC and spellcasting ability modifier: cure wounds (1 charge per spell level, up to 4th) or lesser restoration (2 charges).

The staff regains 1d6 + 4 expended charges daily at dawn.

You can dismiss this weapon as an action, shunting it into an extradimensional space, and it appears as an action whenever you summon it again.
